Opened in 1994 by long time Greenwich resident and businessman, John Farrell, Boxcar Cantina continues to be family owned and is currently run by John’s son, James. After a 20 year career in Banking James took over the family business in 2016. Boxcar Cantina features authentic Northern new Mexican cuisines, which moves beyond Southwest/Tex-Mex food. The Southwest is actually divided into distinct regions, each with its own cooking style and heritage. While each has its roots in Mexican cooking, Northern New Mexican is a blend of the three cultures – Native American, Spanish and Anglo-European.

We pride ourselves on offering some of the most delicious food in town by using only the highest quality ingredients. Since opening our commitment has been to source local and / or organic ingredients whenever possible and always use sustainable raised organic meats.
